Training

I trained at the University of Leeds where I gained an MA with distinction in Psychotherapy and Counselling.

I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy(BACP) and adhere to their Code of Ethics and Practice, ensuring I always work with the client’s best interests in mind. Accreditation is awarded to those members who have achieved a substantial level of training and experience.

Background

My original background was in marketing after gaining a Business Degree from Sheffield University. After having children I worked part-time within a large bank, latterly as a Mortgage Adviser.
I have been a foster carer and currently also support families with children with disabilities.

In recent years I have worked at the charitable organization, Leeds Counselling, supporting clients with a range of issues from complex, long-standing problems through to more current, specific difficulties.
In addition I have worked within an NHS setting offering short-term support for clients referred via their GP. I am therefore experienced in providing effective therapy over periods of just 6 sessions, right up to 2 years.

How I work

I work integratively which means I am trained in a range of theories and approaches which I can draw on to provide support which is meaningful and helpful to you as an individual. However, more important than the theories, is the development of the bond between the two of us within the safe space of the therapy room.

Having undertaken a course at the British Mindfulness Institute, I am also qualified to offer Mindfulness therapy, which has been shown to be highly effective in addressing a number of issues including depression and anxiety.
